With all the holiday fun and festivities, it also brings in the holiday baking season as well. I'm jumping on the blogging bandwagon and making some Christmas cookies and treats to spread some holiday cheer. From now until Christmas, I'll make twelve holiday cookies and treats. I had a hard time trying to narrow which 12 cookies and treats that I wanted to make but I'm pretty sure you'll make a couple or a dozen goodies.
I recently hosted my first ever Christmas Cookie Exchange this past weekend. I asked all my girlfriends to bring 3 dozen cookies, 2 dozen to share, and 1 dozen to donate to USO. My cousin knows at least 25 people deployed in Afghanistan and wanted to bake up some cookies to send out to our troops and it coordinated perfectly with my Christmas cookie exchange. I know they will appreciate a piece of home when they receive our treats. As a treat for all my guests, I did some prep work preparing a giveaway for all my guests. It was totally appropriate to make cookie jars as takeaways for everyone to enjoy. Bakerella had made these adorable Cowboy cookies and I saw a Christmas version of it from Make it Do. These are pretty inexpensive gifts to share with your friends and family!
Cookies in a Jar for Santa
Adapted from Make it Do and Bakerella
Materials Needed:
1 Quart Wide Mouth Mason Jars
Cookies for Santa Printable Label
Cardstock
2 inch paper puncher (Scalloped box is the one I used)
Double stick tape
Colored scraps about 10x10
Ribbon
Ingredients Needed:
Flour
Rolled Oats
Festive M&Ms
Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Baking Powder
Baking Soda
Salt
Pecans
Granulated Sugar
Brown Sugar
Preparation:
Lay out all your Mason Jars, and measure the ingredients into each jar, and try to pack it down. I used my wide mouth canning funnel to help place the ingredients in the jar.
From bottom to the top layer should follow as:
Layer 1: Flour
Layer 2: Baking soda, baking powder and salt
Layer 3: Rolled Oats
Layer 4: M&Ms
Layer 5: Chocolate Chips
Layer 6: Brown Sugar, White Sugar
Layer 7: Chopped pecans
Recipe:
1 1/3 cup all purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup & leveled
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup cooking oats
3/4 cup m&ms
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 – 1/2 cup chopped pecans
After you have measured out the ingredients, cover it with the lid. Place a piece of cloth and tie a pretty ribbon around it. Print out your labels on cardstock and punch them with a 2 inch paper cutter. Place the labels on the front and back with double stick tape. Repeat and continue with the rest of the mason jars.
